Your garden doesn’t need to be perfect to make a powerful difference.
In this short, self-paced course, you’ll learn how to support pollinators and other beneficial wildlife—meeting their real needs with food, water, shelter, and space.
You’ll learn how to:
- Choose native plants that offer pollinators a full, seasonal menu
- Spot the real problem with “pretty but pointless” plants like butterfly bush
- Create habitat without making your yard look weedy or wild (though we do love a little wilderness in every yard 😉)
- Avoid common mistakes—like hidden pesticides that quietly poison your wildlife guests
- Plan a garden you’re proud to share with both pollinators and people
You don’t need a huge yard. You don't need expensive tools. You don’t even need an especially green thumb.
You just need to understand what pollinators are really hungry for—and how to serve it up with style and purpose.

Because you’re not just gardening—you’re feeding the future.

The Buzz from Real Gardeners

“I enjoy your upbeat, positive spirit and enthusiasm, and appreciate that though you have young children, whom you teach, you don't sound like you're teaching children when teaching your courses. Thank you!”
- Kris from South Carolina

“Amy is a total plant nerd — and I say that with love. She’ll talk about native wildflowers and caterpillar host plants for days. But that’s exactly why I trust her. She knows her stuff. This course is exactly what I’d expect from her: smart, beautiful, and rooted in real care for the world.”
- Miranda from Virginia

"I love the environment you’ve created here! The material is simple to understand and you pick good topics that help me grow. It’s a place where people can contribute and feel like their contributions are a part of something bigger."
- Simone from Pennsylvania
Meet Your Guide
Hi! I'm Amy.
Although, I grew up in my family's garden, I made plenty of mistakes when I set out on my own. Planted okra too early and lettuce too late. Tomatoes with gorgeous leaves...and no fruit. I wanted to grow organically, but didn't know where to start.
Today, my husband Colby and I harvest delicious foods from a "beyond organic" garden in Western North Carolina. Our yard is full of flowers and fascinating wildlife. Our three kids enjoy time outside with us (though they magically disappear when it's time to weed). Still, I love knowing they can browse on kale and strawberries without worry about toxic pesticides.
I've been writing and teaching about nature for 24 years since one of my first jobs as a biology tutor in college.
We founded Gardens That Matter in 2015 to help gardeners who want to grow healthy food and a healthy planet.
I look forward to hearing about your garden and supporting your learning journey!
